3 Must-Have Baby Essentials for Your Precious Ones

Congratulations! You’ve made it through nine long months of pregnancy, labour and delivery. Now you’re finally home with your precious bundle of joy. The postpartum phase with your newborn is a big adjustment for both of you.

The secret to making your postpartum phase a breeze is having the right essentials to make caring for your newborn easy, effective and also safe. Your baby would be happy when her basic needs are met: you respond to her cries, feed her, change her diapers, and lull her to sleep. Here are some basic baby essentials that every parent must have to ensure that their babies are comfortable and happy!

Babies have tiny and very delicate hair that needs proper grooming and gentle cleaning. Choose baby shampoos that contain special ingredients such as emollient which help soothe your baby’s skin and scalp. Baby shampoos are generally mild and formulated for the delicate hair and scalp of your newborn babies. Most of them will not cause tears and made up of pH-balanced formula which help minimize irritation and dryness while leaving a pleasant fragrant on your baby.

Why would you need baby lotions for your precious one? Baby lotions actually help make your baby’s skin smooth and supple. They are generally pH balanced which will maintain the pH levels of the baby’s skin. You are advised to use a baby lotion that is recommended by doctors, clinically proven and tested by dermatologists.

Besides providing nourishment and hydration for your baby, it helps to soothe the skin especially if it is nourished with Vitamin E. Some lotions offer additional benefits including as a sunscreen, insect repellent or to treat nappy rash. Choose the one which is free from paraben, SLES, fragrance and other harmful chemicals.

Talcum-based baby powders are made using the mineral talc which usually contain magnesium, silicon and oxygen. These substances help absorb moisture and reduces skin-on-skin friction, which may help prevent rashes, including diaper rash.

However, if you are using baby powders, try to opt for powders that are free from talc and carcinogen (substance that can cause cancer) and made of natural minerals. Keep the powder away from the baby’s face and genitalia. This is because the talc or cornstarch in the powder can cause breathing problems, therefore it is best to be used sparingly.
