Baby learns to walk

How to learn how to walk

  1. Before learning to walk, our baby must be well prepared for the body, and the squat movement can be a good exercise for the leg muscles.
  2. Using the walker can reduce the baby’s fear of walking and rush forward more confidently
  3. Short distance walking and a learning belt uses tools to help your baby learn to walk.
  4. Letting the baby climb the stairs can also strengthen his leg muscles and make him more interested in learning to walk.

Baby’s time to learn to walk

Baby learning to walk is actually a step-by-step process. , let ’s take a look at the baby ’s specific timetable for walking!

  • 6 weeks: sits with curved back, needs support. Head control developing. In ventral suspension (when held above couch with examiner’s hand supporting the abdomen) can hold a  head at level of body briefly.
  • 3 months: can hold head at 90° in ventral suspension.
  • 6 months: no head lag when pulled to sit. Can sit with support. When lying face down, can lift up on forearms.
  • 9 months: gets into a sitting position alone. Sits unsupported and can pivot. Crawls. (Age of crawling varies widely, and some infants never crawl.)
  • 10 months: pulls to standing and stands holding on.
  • 12 months: stands and walks with one hand held. May stand alone briefly. May walk alone.
  • 18 months: walks well. Climbs stairs holding rail. Runs. Seats self in chair.
  • 2 years: goes up and down stairs alone. Two feet per step. Kicks a ball.
  • 3 years: climbs stairs one foot per step. Able to stand on one foot for a few seconds.

The reason why the baby learns to walk late

  1. Delayed motor maturation (often familial): There may be an associated mild hypotonia. It is a diagnosis of exclusion.
  2. Severe learning disabilities: there is a delay in all developmental areas but gross motor development is often less affected There may be some associated dysmorphic features and hypotonia is often present.
  3. Abnormalities in muscle tone and power such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. Hypotonia of any causes such as Down’s syndrome.

What should baby pay attention to when learning to walk

Baby learning to walk is a big thing, and parents must be very concerned. So as parents, what should we pay attention to when a baby learns to walk?

  1. It is best to wear soft shoes because baby’s bones have not been shaped yet. Hard-soled shoes and leather shoes are not conducive to the normal development of baby feet.
  2. Pay attention to the safety of the environment because your baby may be injured while learning to walk.
  3. You can play games to help  the baby learn to walk such as resist crawling by letting the baby prone on the bed, the parents put the palm of the hand against the baby’s feet, he will automatically pedal your hand and crawl forward.
